The four stages of Tara appreciation

Season 4: Ohmygosh Willow’s dating a woman!!!!! And Tara seems sweet, I guess. But ohmygosh Willow’s dating a woman!!!!!

Season 5: Tara definitely has her moments here and there! She’s good for Willow, I think.

Season 6: TARA IS THE REAL HERO OF THIS ENTIRE FRANCHISE I LOVE HER SO MUCH SHE IS TOO GOOD FOR THIS WORLD.

Post-season 6: Rewatch every single episode in which Tara appears and find seventeen new understated reasons to love her in each one. Can’t believe you were ever underwhelmed by her because clearly she is the most perfect character to ever exist.

I might experience stage 3 and 4 when I get around to rewatching s4-7. Time will tell. I really like her, though! I like her even more since someone pointed out a character flaw she has & I was like, but that's me. :D

Haha that's fair, I definitely identify with her a lot. What was the thing, if you don't mind my asking?

I just remember-- "Dead Things" was the episode that won her my love for good. Everyone was so wrapped up in their own things, and she was the only person who actually talked to Buffy and listened to her-- and then set out to be an amazing friend to her afterwards. And once she had become queen of my heart, I was able to see those qualities in all of her previous episodes.

As rahirah put it here, "Tara had some fairly major character flaws, just like all the other characters. It was just that hers lay in the direction of being too passive and go-along-to-get-along, and being unwilling or unable to stand up to stronger personalities, so they’re not as obvious as, say, Anya’s."
It's definitely something Tara overcomes, though! Maybe she is just flawed enough to have a kickass character arc. ^^

Oh for sure! She was an incredibly kind character, and that definitely made her kind of a pushover at times. I think leaving Willow was kind of the real beginning for her of coming into her own-- especially since a lot of those character traits came from growing up with her horrible abusive family. Willow helped her learn that she could be loved and respected and appreciated-- and then she was able to respect herself enough to leave when Willow stopped doing it. And that all made her the absolute queen that she is in season 6.

(I have a lot of feelings about Tara leaving Willow.)
