I've written myself into a corner and I don't know how to get out of it. :( I wrote two contradictory things for a character to be doing in a certain time period, and she can only do one of them, but I really want her to do both of them, and I can't figure out what serves the story best! There's one version I prefer narratively and stylistically, but if I choose that version it means I can't use the other one, and the other is the one that makes sense with in-universe logic. If I pick the one that makes in-universe sense, then I'm stuck without the parallel vignette and clever ending that I think the story needs. What do I dooooooo....?

Make the first one make sense, or grit your teeth and do the necessary -

- and use the stylish one in a different story.
