Comment of the Week, part 2

I want to highlight this comment today because it was made EXACTLY a year ago, and was very very important to me.

This comes from katajainen (and if you want me to remove your name or the credit or anything, please let me know!), who makes the best comments ever, and it was really really important to me because it came on the final chapter of the longest story I'd ever posted and my main foray into Legolas/Gimli fandom. I had had no idea if my odd character interpretations would be appreciated, and I watched in awe as readers commented on the story as I posted it and enjoyed what I was doing-- and this comment was a representation of peak wonderful:



I had not planned to write in this fandom. And then when I started, I hadn't planned to write long stories at all. And yet I watched people read this long story and like it, and more-- want me to write more of it. That was unbelievably overwhelming to me. And this comment was, all on its own, a HUGE chunk of the reason I ended up writing more-- a reason the story turned from 85K to a 230K word series.

I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that I've worn out my readers' tolerance as I've written weirder and weirder stuff, but I'm writing this series for myself now, and I'm loving the experience. But I know I wouldn't have gone this far if comments like this hadn't given me the permission to continue-- the thought that I was entertaining more than just myself with this story, the thought that I had more stories to tell, and a place to tell them.

So thank you so much, to everyone who has commented. And thank you all for letting me ramble!

Oh shucks, you shouldn't have, but then again I stand 200% behind anything I've ever said about that story. So there.
