HELP I AM DYING OF EXPOSITION but also it is necessary for stringing together narratives spanning thousands of years

Writing about elves is hard.

Ooh! But I am trying to write about baby Legolas now! Which is also hard because I’m bad at children, but I’m having fun trying to explore his childhood. Of course I’m doing it through a very Laerwen-centric lens, but I think I also got some insight into a background story I got stuck on a year ago!

I love that all these details are clicking together in my mind, but it’s very hard to write them without just “telling” (rather than showing) all of them. It’s very easy to lapse into telling in present tense, but that’s the tense the story wants, so... I dunno.

my baby Legolas is not very funny, alas, and probably not that cute either—writing children is not a strong suit of mine. But I hope he is enjoyable if this story ever works.
