...from city council members in response to a letter about cutting our policing budget (which is almost 1/3 of our operating budget what the heck they do NOT need that much money, especially since we're a small gentrified suburb) and investing the money into community programs that would make our community more welcoming to marginalized people:

1. A thoughtful, genuine response received within half an hour saying he was impressed with how well-written the email was (I stole about 75% of it from others and just altered it for context, oops) and how he couldn't promise everything I was asking for but he promised that he would be "a voice on the budget council" advocating for those things, and inviting me to talk further with him about these ideas

2. An obviously copy-pasted description of all the things our community is already doing couched in liberal-buzzword-language as a way of trying to sound like we're not part of the problem, that did not directly respond to any of the things I said in my initial letter... and in which the body of the letter was a different font color from the salutation. Look, I know how Outlook does replies, lady; I have one too. You could have at least put in the effort.

...I hope she gets the same letter 20 more times from the other people I shared the template with. That'll show her.

Still, though, there's some hope!
