Comment of the Week, part 3
I almost forgot, but I'm doing this again, because it's good for me, I think. :)
This week's comment is from a couple of months ago, on my story Bane. This was a story that stretched my limits and abilities in a lot of ways, and I wasn't particularly happy with the result.
This comment, though, actually helped me feel a little better about it.
I know it's really easy to go wrong saying something in a comment that isn't entirely positive, and it doesn't work for everybody. But for the place I was in with this story, having a comment that acknowledged the story's flaws and limitations, but still judged it as a worthy read anyway, and commented on the good parts of it, made me feel a lot better about the honesty of the comment. I felt both reassured that I was in the place I had judged myself, writing-wise, but also reassured that the brain goblins weren't right this time, and that the story was worthwhile even if it wasn't perfect. It was much more validation than I had expected on the story, and I really appreciated it.
(Also, the story isn't a favorite within that series-- and I went out of my way to keep it from drawing attention-- so I was pleased with the reception it got.)
